Stone veneer may look identical to genuine stone, but it consists of a few straightforward materials — Portland cement, iron oxide pigments and lightweight aggregates made of natural stone. After combining these materials, we cast them in a highly detailed mold. That mold, originally made from genuine stones, captures all the details and texture that were on the original stones, providing unique and completely natural-looking surfaces. They’ll feel natural, too, with the rough yet detailed texture you would expect from a real stone.
One reason contractors and homeowners love stone veneer is its versatility. You can find stone veneer in:
Wherever it’s in use, the stone veneer adds a bold, earthy touch to almost any space — and we do mean any space. While natural stones have some limitations for where you can use them, you can put faux stone veneer on various materials, including metal, wood-framed walls, concrete masonry unit blocks, bricks and even concrete.
Given the right treatment, you can also use stone veneer in more specialized locations, like fireplaces and pools. For example, pool chemicals can cause discoloration and fading, so stone veneer used near pools should have the appropriate sealant applied, or you should clean it promptly following any exposure to chlorine or other chemicals. When used near fire or heat, your veneer should have fire and smoke treatments applied.
